Luke Whisel was a gifted athlete, dedicated scholar, and, above all, someone remembered for his kindness, humility, and sense of humor. His passion for cross country and track carried him from Gateway High School to Waynesburg University, where he continued competing while pursuing his education in computer science.
Luke graduated magna cum laude from Waynesburg University in May 2025, leaving behind an impact that reached far beyond the classroom and finish line.

The Luke Whisel Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Luke’s life and carry his legacy forward by supporting Gateway High School student-athletes who embody the qualities that made him so special.

Luke had a way of brightening the lives of those around him. He approached running, academics, friendships, and life with sincerity and determination while never losing the kindness and humor for which he was known.

Although Luke is deeply missed, the impact he made continues through his family, friends, teammates, classmates, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
