Soil Moisture

Grows well in moist (well drained), average, and dry soils. Will tolerate mild droughts once established. Best flowering will occur in moist, well-drained to average soils.

Bloom Time

In the Pittsburgh region, Knock Out® roses begin flowering in mid-spring and continue through early fall.

"The first wave of flowers will be abundant. Then the roses will typically have scattered blooms until another wave of heavy flowering occurs. This will repeat until the first hard frost." - The Knock Out® Family of Roses FAQ

Care

Water your Knock Out® rose generously until it is well established. We also recommend watering established plants periodically during droughts. Deadheading is not needed for continual flowering. Fertilizers are not necessary but can be applied, if desired, to increase floral display. Any fertilizer tailored for roses and/or shrubs, followed according to the label, will do.

Knock Out® roses are "shrub roses" and are much more pest and disease resistant than Hybrid-tea and Grandiflora roses. That said, any issue can be remedied by general products from the garden center.

Heavy pruning, if desired, is best reserved for late winter or early spring right before or when new growth begins to emerge. When pruning we recommend taking no more than 1/2 off the established plant. Avoid pruning during heat waves, droughts, and anytime during fall.

Note: Despite having prickles (thorns), roses are NOT deer resistant. Please plant accordingly.
